Gardens should be allowed to grow

Dear Editor:

I would like to open this letter with a direct quote from Wikipedia.

“The purpose of modern museums is, to collect, preserve, interpret and display items of artistic, cultural or scientific significance for the education of the public.” According to Wikipedia, modern museums are educational facilities.

There is not one doubt in my mind that Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens will grow to be a world-class botanical garden. It has already been of great benefit to the entire area, including Wiscasset.

I find it hard to believe we are letting one individual put this entire project in doubt. This is not the first time he has done this and, in my mind, he will do or say whatever to help him prevail. His lawyers have been throwing everything they can think of against the wall trying to get something to stick.

I also don’t understand why a stop work order was issued because two appeals board members changed their minds. That sends a great message to any future  businesses wanting to deal with the town. We have heard a great deal from the one individual opposed to this but I welcome hearing from those who think this is a great thing for the whole area.
