Help the Boosters score a scoreboard!

Mon, 08/21/2017 - 6:30pm

Dear Editor:

Last year was a rebuilding year for the Boothbay Region Boosters Club as we worked to rebuild our bank account back into the black after an unfortunate setback.  We were able to get back on track after a great season of concessions and donations from the community.

As we start the fall season of sports this year, it has come to our attention that the scoreboard in the high school gym will not make it through this school year.  Many of the light bulbs are broken and because the equipment is so old, there is no way to get any replacement parts for it.

The scoreboard is one of the first things that anyone visiting our gym will see.  We host numerous basketball games all winter and the ever popular, Lobster Jam Basketball Tournament in the summer, which included 16 girls teams from all over the state.  This summer was especially difficult to tell what exactly the score was because so many of the bulbs were out.

A new scoreboard costs upwards of $10,000 and the school has budgeted $5,000 towards a new one.  The Boosters Club is looking to fund the other $5,000 with help from donors like you.  If we should be so lucky as to exceed our fundraising goal, any extra funds will be used to upgrade the football and field hockey scoreboards.

If you’d like to help us reach our goal of a new scoreboard before basketball season starts, just log into your PayPal account, choose friends and family, and send to: Boothbayregionboosters@gmail.com. Or, you can mail a check to: Boothbay Region Boosters Club Scoreboard Fund, 236 Townsend Avenue, Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538.

Let’s all work together to get a scoreboard that we can all be proud of!
