High school sailing program underway

The spring season of the Boothbay Region High School sailing program is now underway and early information suggests a banner program with at least 10 and possibly more talented and experienced sailors participating. The program, now in its sixth year, was originated and is fully sponsored by the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club and the Boothbay Harbor Yacht Club Junior Foundation and is coached by Charles Barclay.

The sailors meet after school at the Yacht Club and since the water is very cold at this time of year they sail in dry suits in case a contact with the water happens. BHYC supplies the dry suits and has a fleet of twelve 420 sailboats which are used for the program. The team competes in weekly regattas with other teams from Portland, Rockland, Blue Hill, Freeport and Mt. Desert Island.

The program is open to all interested sailors and additional information is available by calling 633-5750 and asking for Charles Barclay.
