Boothbay Region Garden Club

Home and Garden tour includes Southport property

Tue, 07/11/2017 - 8:00am

The Boothbay Region Garden Club presents this home that is very rich with history and waits for you to explore its past and present.

The old farm and sea captain's house overlooks Ebenecook Harbor, likely built circa 1850 by George W. "Squire" Pierce for his daughter Ann Marie when she married Robert Maddocks, a sea captain. After Robert died at sea in 1859, she remarried, leaving the house to the Pierce family. In 1950, Alfred and Ruth Olcott bought the house and added the master bedroom and a salt water swimming pool. To date, there have now have been five generations of the Olcott/Jacobs/Pierce family in the house. Over the last few years, major renovations have been done on the north end of the house, but the remainder is maintained much as Ruth left it in the mid-1960s. The grounds include pathways through the woods and rustic gardens along stonewalls, please take a stroll through them.
