Honor Essay

We are all before you today marking the end the of a four-year project that was assigned to us when we left middle school. The one project we can all look back on with pride.

As I sat writing this early in the morning the day it was due, much like every other school assignment I've had, I realized how hard this was gonna be. Luckily I've listen to enough speeches in these last couple weeks to know how these things go. I tried to think of of a quote or something that I felt could summarize our class in a nice succinct way but sadly I don't think this is possible.

Although we may not look like the most diverse group of people, we all are all little snowflakes and everyone's high school experience has been unique to themselves. All of us, however, had had our own defining experiences that really sum up high school in our own more personal ways. Whether friendships, teachers, classes, sports, clubs or any other number of things were your defining moments, doesn't matter now.

I know the great poet Miley Cyrus said "Ain't about what's waitin' on the other side, it's the climb," and yes the climb has definitely been fun, but it's finally time to see the other side. It's time for me to take my defining moments and decide to do with them. It's time for all of us to take what makes us unique, take those moments, and turn them into something. Because as sad as it is for me to say, those four years of friendships, teachers, classes, sports, clubs are over now.

Yes we have made friendships and memories that will last forever, but now it’s time to take those defining moments which have shaped us into the men and women before you today and move into the future. It's time for us to move on from these halls and have new moments define us.

And as scary as leaving the only school I've ever known is, I know that new moments await all of us and that is certainly nothing to be feared but to be cherished. I've been lucky enough to have some pretty great friends who've given me some pretty great stories to tell in the future, and I'm looking forward for the stories yet to come.
