Internationally acclaimed Vienna Piano Trio at Boothay Harbor Opera House July 14

Sun, 06/25/2017 - 7:30am

A spring and early summer tour that has included sold out concerts in Salzburg, London and Ottawa, finds the award-winning Vienna Piano Trio in Maine on Friday, July 14, at the historic Opera House in Boothbay Harbor. These accomplished musicians are more typically found in the major concert halls of the world, but due to rare scheduling and a new-found love for the coast of Maine, they will be returning to the Opera House this summer. They have announced their program as an all Schubert evening.

The program for piano, violin and cello includes Schubert’s “Arpeggione” Sonata for Cello and Piano, D821, the Fantasy for Violin and Piano, D934 and Schubert’s B-flat Trio, D898.

Founded in 1988 and celebrated for its finesse, infectious exuberance, tonal allure, and its irresistible panache, the Vienna Piano Trio has long been hailed as one of the "world's leading ensembles of piano, violin and cello,"says The Washington Post. In North America, the group has appeared in New York City at Lincoln Center, Weil Recital Hall, and Frick Collection, and in Washington, DC at the Kennedy Center, National Gallery, and Library of Congress), as well as in Baltimore, Philadelphia, Cleveland, Chicago, Houston, Los Angeles, Seattle, Vancouver, Toronto, Ottawa, Montreal, Quebec City, Mexico City, and the Caribbean.

In addition, the trio has been invited to many of leading music festivals, including the Schubertiade Schwarzenberg, Wiener Festwochen, Salzburg Mozartwoche, Grafenegg, Carinthischer Sommer, Casals Festival Prades, Rheingau, Festival of Flanders, Aix-en-Provence, Schleswig-Holstein, Kuhmo and Bratislava Music Festivals, Princeton Summer, Caramoor, Chautauqua, and to the Canadian festivals of Ottawa International Chamber, Toronto Summer Music, Ottawa Music and Beyond, Lanaudiere, Domaine Forget, Orford, Quebec City International, the Casals Festival in San Juan, the Morelia and Santa Lucia Festivals in Mexico.

Concerts of the ensemble have been repeatedly broadcast on ORF, BBC3, WNYC, NPR, WQXR stations, and the trio has appeared live on WGBH Boston and St. Paul Sunday and radio stations world-wide.

Besides its concert activities, the ensemble has given master classes at London's Wigmore Hall and Royal College of Music, at Sydney's Conservatory of Music, at the University of Wellington as well as in Finland, France, Canada, Mexico, and throughout the USA. The Vienna Piano Trio has won numerous prizes at international competitions and considers its most important mentors Isaac Stern, Ralph Kirshbaum, Joseph Kalichstein as well as members of the Trio di Trieste, the Beaux Arts Trio, and of the La Salle and Guarneri Quartets.
