Julie Babb show at The First in Damariscotta

Sat, 12/05/2015 - 8:00am
Pemaquid artist Julie Babb is displaying several of her paintings at The First bank, Main Street, Damariscotta, during the month of December.

Babb is well known for her detailed representational work in gouache, an opaque form of watercolor – each painting represents many hours of careful study and precision. She has specialized in birds, although she paints many other natural subjects as well.

Her paintings have won numerous awards, including Best of Show at the Maine Sportsman’s Alliance Wildlife Art Show in Augusta.

Mostly self-taught, Babb has taken many workshops, including portraiture, color theory and classical drawing techniques. She is currently an instructor for the Lincoln County Adult Education program, where she teaches gouache painting. She also gives private lessons at her studio in Pemaquid.

She is represented by the Ducktrap Bay Trading Company in Camden and the Pemaquid Art Gallery at Lighthouse Park during the summer.
