June celebrations at Boothbay Railway Village

Fri, 06/12/2015 - 8:15am

It’s a very special year for the Boothbay Railway Village. It’s the museum’s 50th anniversary and the season is full of distinctive celebrations.

The most important event of the 50th anniversary will be a fundraising party June 30, 6:30-8:30 p.m., to honor the museum for 50 years of preservation, education and service to the community and to raise funds for its continued operation.

The evening includes passed hors d’oeuvres and a full bar including two signature cocktails by Red Plate Catering of Damariscotta. The anniversary celebration will take place inside the historic 1847 Boothbay Town Hall, relocated to the museum campus in 1990.

Castlebay, a duo from Round Pound, will provide live music. The highlight of the evening will be the opportunity to share your personal tribute to the museum with stories of the first five decades of the Boothbay Railway Village. Tickets are $75 each and can be ordered through the museum’s website or by phone at 207-633-4727. The anniversary celebration is made possible through the support of J. Edward Knight Insurance.

Boothbay Railway Village salutes the museum’s first station agent, the late Ron Spinney, this Saturday, June 13 by rolling back admission prices to those charged during the museum’s first season in 1965. Admission will be just 50 cents for adults, 25 cents for children and free for “tiny tots.” Ron Spinney Day is the first official celebration marking the museum’s 50th anniversary. Support from Northeast Security Systems of Wiscasset makes the reduced admission price possible.

On Saturday, June 20, Family Fun Day, the museum will also roll out the red carpet for kids of all ages (including the young at heart) with free rides in a Ford Model T and a 1936 Dodge Fire Truck (originally in service in Augusta) along with a scavenger hunt, storytelling and other fun stuff for the family.

Admission to Family Fun Day is free for anyone under 18, admission for adults is just $10. Family Fun Day is sponsored by Amtrak Downeaster, Red Cloak Haunted History Tours and Coastal Maine Popcorn Company.

The museum will be open on Ron Spinney Day and Family Fun Day from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. with hourly train departures between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. Well-behaved and leashed four-legged friends are always welcome.
