Laurie Meyer to lead plein air workshop

Look around the week of Monday, Sept. 19 through Friday, Sept. 23 and you just might spy a group of artists painting at locations throughout the Boothbay region. These plein air artists will be visiting from South Carolina and other states to participate in an art workshop on boats and harbors led by Charleston-based artist Laurie Meyer.

Meyer loves painting on the coast of Maine, something she shared this past winter with Janet Brennan of Boothbay during a workshop in Seabrook, South Carolina — and that's all Brennan had to hear. Soon the two women were planning this workshop with Brennan putting together a list of areas to paint, and places to eat and visit after the daily plein air workshops ended.

Many of the artists traveling with Meyer are regular art students or previous workshop attendees. Some of the locations Brennan suggested are: anywhere around the Harbor, the Boothbay Farmer's Market, Southport Island, Knickercane Park, Ocean Point area, and Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens.

Meyer and an artist friend opened an art gallery, MeyerVogl, in the heart of the art district in Charleston this spring. Meyer is a plein air and studio artist who loves bold colors. She has won many awards, including Best In Show at Charleston's spring Spoleto Festival.
