LCHA offers children’s summer program

Mon, 06/05/2017 - 8:45am

Registration is now open for “Summer with the Past,” three week-long day camp sessions for children ages 7 through 11. Sponsored by Lincoln County Historical Association (LCHA), each session will be held at a different LCHA site: the 1754 Chapman-Hall House in Damariscotta (June 26 - 30), the 1761 Pownalborough Court House in Dresden (July 10 - 14), and the 1811 Old Jail in Wiscasset (Aug.  7 – 11).

The children will be introduced to the site’s unique history and a variety of art projects and games popular in the 18th and 19th centuries.  The activities have been chosen to give them a better understanding of the way young people spent their free time in Lincoln County over 200 years ago.  The projects vary by site.  This year, a highlight of each of the programs will be making hand puppets. In support of summer reading, each child will choose a historically themed book to borrow for the week and read at home.

“Summer with the Past” was created by Louise Miller, coordinator of LCHA’s Education Outreach program.  The program’s goal is to provide children with a greater understanding of the unique history of this part of New England.

Details and registration information can be found on the LCHA website:  www.lincolncountyhistory.org.  To request a brochure and registration form, please contact LCHA at 207-882-6817 or email info@lincloncountyhistory.org.  Space is limited, so please register early.
