Lincoln Theater establishes new operating endowment

Lincoln Theater has established a new operating endowment which resulted from an anonymous gift of $1 million.

“This wonderful donation is truly a 5-star review of the theater,” stated Board President, Karen Filler.  “It reinforces our solid leadership in providing a broad array of entertainment to the community in a fiscally sound manner while also being careful stewards of our wonderful historic building.”   In 2016 alone, the Lincoln Theater held over 540 events, (close to 24,000 visits), more than 40 events being free to the public.  The theater recently restored half of the 1875-vintage building’s unique antique windows, which had been boarded-up for decades.

The theater is in the midst of its annual membership-renewal drive, with notices being sent to over 800 members.  The Lincoln Theater Annual Meeting, which will include a sneak preview of the latest documentary from acclaimed filmmaker, Ken Burns, will take place on Tuesday, Aug. 22.  The theater also will be holding an open house on Tuesday, June 20 from 4 to 6 p.m., during which the public will be invited to enjoy the official opening, literally and figuratively, of the theater’s historic windows.  Both of these events are free to the public, as well as to existing members.

As a community-based non-profit entity, Lincoln Theater is dependent on its members and friends for their support through their purchase of tickets, as well as their donation of time, money and expertise.  The new operating endowment is one more way of ensuring their theater’s future.  It is hoped that supporters will consider contributing to the endowment as part of their estate planning, to support their downtown community theater’s legacy of providing an historic venue for great movies, plays, concerts and more.  Curtain going up!
