The Southport School Board has announced that Lisa Clarke has been hired as the teaching principal at Southport Central School. Clarke replaces Marcelle Durost, who has taken an interim principal position in Kittery.

Clarke, a Southport resident, currently serves as principal at Edgecomb Eddy School, where she teaches students from kindergarten to the fourth grade. She has a bachelor of science in elementary education from the University of Maine at Farmington and a master’s in educational leadership from St. Joseph’s College in Standish. She has a strong background in differentiated instruction and promotes student achievement through individualized instruction. Clarke recently provided mindfulness training at Edgecomb Eddy and has been a strong supporter of incorporating yoga into daily classroom instruction.

The school board will announce a meet-and-greet soon so that students, parents, and community members may welcome Clarke to Southport Central School.

Clarke has two daughters, Alexandra, who recently graduated from Suffolk University in Boston, and Nicole, who will graduate from Boothbay Region High School this week and attend the University of Vermont in Burlington next fall.
