Maine Art Gallery opens 2015 season

The Maine Art Gallery has opened its 2015 season with a juried exhibition of works by artists from across Maine. The exhibit continues through July 4. The gallery is located at 15 Warren Street in Wiscasset, and will be open Monday through Saturday 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

This mixed media exhibit features works in oil, acrylic and watercolor, as well as caricatures, pen and ink drawings, and photography. The exhibit features works by the following Maine artists.

Wiscasset artist Sean Closson is a freelance illustrator and graphic designer who was classically trained in traditional media, ranging from oils and watercolors to pastels and charcoal.

Jeanne Coleman is an award winning photographer from Palermo. While she embraces all genres of photography, her true passion lies in photographing nature. Coleman especially enjoys the challenge of photographing wildlife.

William Curtis recently moved to Damariscotta where he has been exploring and sketching the rugged coastline and wooded interiors. He has enjoying painting landscapes for well over 40 years with his native New England as the subject.

Pam Logan, a photographer for over 30 years, splits her time between New Jersey and Wiscasset. Logan searches for new and different perspectives. This exhibit shows her macro photos and landscapes of coastal Maine.

Ruth Monsell of Damariscotta paints subjects from alewives to landscapes, mostly in oil. Her work also includes silhouettes, portraiture in a variety of media, and caricatures.

Ronn Orenstein, also of Damariscotta, is an award-winning commercial photographer, who worked for over 20 years at Hartz Mountain Corporation. His work in this exhibit features wildlife in their natural habitat and coastal Maine.

Falmouth artist Rick Parker is best known worldwide as the artist of MTV’s Beavis and Butt-Head Comic Book (Marvel 1994-96), He is a longtime comics artist and letterer, whose cartooning, fine art, photography and sculpture has been shown in the New York Times, Time and Life magazines, The Village Voice, U.S. News & World Report, and even on "60 Minutes" with the late Andy Rooney.

Wiscasset artist Jorge Pena was born in Colombia, and lived in Florida for 37 years working as an entomologist at the University of Florida. he is dedicated to painting and has evolved into oil painting with work emphasizing markets of the tropics and landscapes.

Damariscotta painter Paul Sherman began developing his interest in drawing and painting at only eight. He has always been involved in many pursuits undertaken during overlapping periods of time. Now that he is able to concentrate more fully on painting, he is looking forward to turning out more work, one painting at a time.

The Maine Art Gallery’s artist reception for this exhibition will be on Thursday, June 25, from 4 to 7 p.m., conjunction with the first Wiscasset Art Walk of the 2015 season.
