‘The Maine Story’ exhibition features works by 90 artists

River Arts in Damariscotta invites the public to an opening reception for its newest exhibition, “The Maine Story,” on Friday, Aug. 1 from 5 to 7 p.m. This exhibition includes 120 works in a wide variety of media, by 90 Maine artists and runs through August 28. Music for the opening will be provided by Sylvia Tavares.

Susan Groce is the juror for the exhibition. Groce is a professor of art and department chairman at the University of Maine, Orono. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from the University of Michigan. She has worked at Atelier 17, Paris; the Edinburgh Printmakers, Scotland; Open Bite Print Workshop, Australia; and the MacDowell Colony, N.H.

Boothbay region artists included in the exhibition: John Butke, Mark Reilly, Margaret Canepa, Peter Felsenthal, Carol Fisher, Jennifer Litchfield, Scott See, Sally Smith.

Wiscasset area artists are: Elaine Reed, Jessica Lowell, Judi Taylor, Stan Haney, Sarah Harvey, James Kipfur, Elizabeth Caton Pardoe, Patricia Parks, Michael Blaze Petan.

Damariscotta/Bristol/Round Pond area artists include: Peter Aalberg, Polly Steadman, Andrew Carpentier, Dianne Dolan, Richard Webster, Lisa Freeman, Cynthia Hammett, Patricia Leavitt, Kay Hannah, Paula Heiser, Franciska Needham, A. Duncan Whitaker, Judy Nixon, Bernice Rosenthal, Anna Shaw, Elizabeth Palmer Caton, Marnie Sinclair.

River Arts is located at 214 U.S. Route 1, Damariscotta. Hours are Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sunday 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
