Wed, 03/21/2018 - 8:30am

Melissa Holmes Whitt, Esq., CFPTM, a 2001 graduate of Boothbay Region High School, has opened Black Harbor Financial, a financial planning firm, and Whitt Law, a law practice focused on trusts and estates, estate administration, and small businesses, at 251 Ocean Point Road in Boothbay Harbor.

Black Harbor Financial offers comprehensive financial planning on a fee-only basis, meaning the firm does not accept commissions from brokers, funds, or insurance companies in exchange for directing clients to purchase products from them. Whitt Law focuses primarily on trusts and estates, estate administration, and the legal needs of small businesses. Because clients’ legal needs in these areas often overlap with financial planning concerns, the businesses complement each other and may allow clients to avoid the need to have two individuals or firms review and analyze the same information and issues.

Whitt graduated summa cum laude from Boston University and received her law degree from Boston University School of Law. After law school, she was an associate in the investment management practice group at a large international law firm in Boston. Whitt returned to the Boothbay region in 2012 and joined Griffin Law Offices, where she practiced estate planning and administration, real estate, and elder law. Whitt attained the CFPTM designation and opened Black Harbor Financial in 2017.
