Artist/illustrator Thomas Block presents a showing of mixed works at the Southport Memorial Library as its Artist of the Months of January and February 2017.

The show includes watercolors that Block painted while still an art teacher at Wiscasset High School. Other works are more current such as the egg temperas and the tempera resist redwing blackbird.

Special to this collection are eight illustrations from the book “Reginald the Railway Rat.” These watercolors are 12” x 16” and partial proceeds from their sale benefit Boothbay Railway Village. Block illustrated the book written by Paige W. Pendleton as a fundraising project late in 2015.

Now retired from public education after 38 years of service, Block now concentrates his time on book illustration and painting. Since leaving teaching in 2011 Block has illustrated over 30 books including works by Don Carrigan, Steven Powell and Pendleton, as well as a number of authors contracted through Maine Authors Publishing.

Block is currently working on a children’s book he wrote, “A Salty Tail,” which will be published by North Country Press spring of 2017.

The Southport Memorial Libarary is located at 1032 Hendricks Hill Road on Southport Island. Call for hours: 633-2741.
