Mona D. Lapane, who was born February 11, 1940, died June 28, 2015 at Coves Edge, four and a half months after being diagnosed with cancer. She was courageous and unafraid throughout the ordeal.

Daughter of the late Ara and Velma (Seamans) Black, she was a graduate of Brewer High School.

Mona was a lifelong resident of Bristol, Conn. and had also lived in Newport, R.I., and in Bristol, Maine at the end of her life. She had worked for the Bristol Board of Education, Raphael's Department Store, and Bristol Savings Bank. 

She leaves behind her daughter and best friend, Bethany Ludwick and son in-law, Jonathan Ludwick of Bristol Maine; her son and daughter in-law, Bradford and Marissa Lapane of Bristol, Conn.; and son, Matthew Ara Lapane of Plainville, Conn. Mona also leaves behind her two beautiful and much loved grandsons, Bryce and Carson Lapane, sons of Bradford and Marissa.

Known for her love of life and of others, her kindness and compassion, her gentleness and strength will be missed so very much by those who loved her and knew her best. 

A private service and burial will be held Thursday, July 2 in Newport, R.I. A public celebration Mass of Mona’s life will be held on August 4, 10 a.m. at Our Lady of Mercy Church located on Broad Street in Plainville, Conn.
