Neighbor to Neighbor: A gathering to support suicide prevention in our community

Wed, 11/08/2017 - 7:45am

Suicide is an often preventable tragedy that has touched too many families in this community and beyond. Help for someone who is struggling with hopelessness and distress begins with a loved one or friend showing concern over distressing behavior and urging the person to get help.

Join a group of your neighbors, friends and community members in a gathering Tuesday, Nov. 14 to learn how you can get help for a person in crisis. Learn the skills to save a life. This presentation and conversation is an opportunity to learn about mental health and suicide prevention and come away with a few skills to make a difference.  Join us and bring a friend.

This gathering is hosted by the Hope & Resiliency Coalition; a group of committed community members who gather regularly out of concern for those struggling with hopelessness, mental health challenges and suicide loss. Since forming in the summer of 2016 the coalition has hosted multiple community and professional events in collaboration with others. The Neighbor to Neighbor event is co-hosted by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI Maine), the Boothbay Harbor Region Chamber of Commerce, and Maine Center for Disease Control, LincolnHealth’s Family Care Center and Coulombe Center for Health Improvement and the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club.

Free and open to all, a light dinner will be served starting at 5 p.m. with presentation and discussion from 5:30-7 p.m. Event will be held at the Boothbay Harbor Rotary Club located at 66 Montgomery Road, Boothbay Harbor.
