New Andre Benoit exhibition at Gold/Smith Gallery

Story Location:
8 McKown Street
Boothbay Harbor, ME 04538

Gold/Smith Gallery will be featuring the new constructions in wood and paint by Andre Benoit, July 1-30. This is the Boothbay region physician's third exhibition at the gallery.

The sculptures are made from recycled material from the district recycling center, also known as the dump. Benoit puts his own spin on things with his keen eye for form and color the way nobody else we’ve seen can do it.

The wall pieces are joyous and ebullient with the pleasures of life in coastal Maine. There’s a sign in a shop window in town that reads something like, “Heaven is a little closer in a home on the water,” but we think these marvelous works of art are heavenly, and in anyone’s home will bring them that feeling without a hefty coastal property tax bill.

Benoit has had a one-man exhibit at Bowdoin College.

A reception will be held on Saturday, July 11, from 4 to 7 p.m. and the artist will be on hand to share his adventures scavenging and creating here on the wonderful Maine coast.

Gold/Smith Gallery is now in its new location at 8 McKown Street, Boothbay Harbor, across from the side of the Boothbay Harbor Memorial Library.

The gallery is open Monday through Saturday 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. and Sundays noon to 5 p.m. For more information, call 207-633-6252 or visit www.goldsmithgallery.net.
