A new exhibit of three Midcoast artists brighten the walls of the Damariscotta River Grill. A new art exhibition opening on Tuesday, Feb. 9 features the work of Neil Gallagher, Peesh McClanahan and Amy Puleo. An opening reception with scrumptious appetizers by Chef Rick Hirsch, will be held Wednesday, Feb. 10, from 4-5:30 p.m. All artwork is for sale.

Gallagher, from Brunswick, started painting watercolors in 1995, studying with Michael Vermette and Evelyn Dunphy. His work includes nature scenes of Maine woods, mountains and flowers. For Gallagher, “Painting is both broadening and humbling. You get to look long and carefully, and try your best to get a vision of it and get that on the paper.”

McClanahan’s work has been described as playful, colorful and experimental. She paints often, trying new techniques, and loves the process of expression. “When I was a child, I enjoyed mixing concoctions … I made ink from berries and created new colors from my mother's lipsticks and nail polishes,” said McClanahan. “How lucky I am to still be able to delight in the same sorts of basic pleasures!”

Puleo, from Woolwich, describes her art as her inner passion in life: “I am in love with the way color explodes on paper or canvas. It is always such a thrill for me when forms take shape and I can see the objects create themselves. Painting is an excellent way to express the joy you see in nature around you. Sharing this with others brings a sense of completion.”

Damariscotta River Grill is located at 155 Main Street in Damariscotta.
