News and Notes from The Community Center

We are always up to something new around here. The latest is that we have some Junior Volunteers on board. These young people are doing community service hours as part of their educational experience. Last week two young women dropped by the office to share their enthusiasm after their visit to St. Andrews Village health care wing to deliver valentines to the residents. The emotion in their faces and the joy that shown through leads us to believe that we are on the right track by expanding our offerings to include this new program. If you know of someone who would benefit from the experience of volunteering, please send them our way. We will consider people of all ages — men and women — no experience necessary. Some people give two hours a month and some come more frequently. We require training and that one works with a mentor at first in order to get the hang of things. We invite your participation in helping us save lives and change lives each day.

Open Center Game and Genealogy Nights are proving to be very successful. Last Friday, we had 17 people playing Cribbage and Train Dominoes and an additional four people searching for their ancestors. We look forward to some Scrabble, Trivial Pursuit or Bridge players to wander in — or how about Chess? We are here from 6 until 9 p.m. each Friday. Come on down.

Don’t forget--if you need the van to pick you up and take you to walk at the Y or if you need more information about our programs, call 633-9876.
