A New Hampshire man who allegedly punched a woman in the face before she jumped from a moving vehicle has been arrested by the Lincoln County Sheriff’s Office.

Jim Lazott, 41, of Pembroke, New Hampshire, was arrested Aug. 20 in Southport and charged with four Class D crimes after he allegedly drove drunk, punched a woman in the face, and made threats to another woman.

According to the arrest report, sheriff’s deputies were called to Southport at 4 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 20 after receiving word about a possible domestic disturbance that was happening in a car. A driver reportedly phoned the police after witnessing a man “beating the hell out of” a woman in the car behind them at the intersection of Oak and Union streets in Boothbay Harbor.

A few moments after the caller hung up, they called back to report that the woman in the car reportedly jumped from the moving vehicle near the Townsend Gut on the Southport side, according to the arrest report. The caller stayed with the victim, a 43-year-old woman, until she could be taken to Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta. The victim suffered injuries to her face.

The car that was identified by the caller was stopped, and the driver, who was identified as Lazott, was arrested for allegedly operating under the influence.

According to Deputy Chad Gilbert's arrest report, the victim jumped from the car after allegedly being struck in the face several times and being afraid. When Gilbert arrived in Southport, Boothbay Harbor Police officers had Lazott in custody. Gilbert reported that when he spoke to Lazott, he could smell alcohol on his breath.

Lazott was arrested and sent to Two Bridges Regional Jail in Wiscasset.

According to Lincoln County Sheriff’s Detective Jared Mitkus's report, the victim and Lazott had allegedly been drinking at lunch time, and that the victim couldn't remember what the argument was about.

The victim said that the way Lazott was allegedly driving, and the alleged attack, caused her to jump from the vehicle.

According to the report, when Lazott returned to a rented cottage on Southport, the victim's 69-year-old mother asked where her daughter was. Lazott is alleged to have said he pushed her from the car before becoming enraged and breaking a pair of binoculars and a salt shaker.

The victim's mother claimed to have hid in the bedroom, and Lazott allegedly opened the door and told her she was lucky to be in the bedroom, otherwise he would “throw (her) off the deck and kill you.”

The victim’s mother reportedly said she felt the threats were real.

Lazott was charged with criminal threatening, domestic violence assault, criminal mischief and operating under the influence, all Class D crimes. Class D crimes are misdemeanors and are punishable by up to 364 days in jail and up to a $2,000 fine.

He was ordered to refrain from using or possession illegal drugs or alcohol, to have no contact with the victim or her mother and to return to the Lincoln County Court House Sept. 17.
