No quorum for CSD trustees meeting

The Boothbay-Boothbay Harbor Community School District Board of Trustees’ monthly meeting on Wednesday, Oct. 4 was canceled as not enough members were present. The meeting was set to begin 15 minutes earlier at 5 p.m. to observe possible areas for a new playground, but interested parties were being ushered in by Facilities and Transportation Director David Benner as the observation portion had been put on hold.

Superintendent Eileen King asked the board members Steve Lorrain, Kevin Anthony and Ronnie Campbell if they wanted to continue in a workshop.

“There is no motion at all (to vote on),” said King. “(But) we can’t open the meeting, we won’t have minutes to the meeting, and we won’t be able to vote on last meeting’s minutes.”

“I don’t want to do it if we’re not going to have minutes, personally,” said Anthony. “I don’t think it would be right.”

King said she could keep minutes, but that they would not be official. The members declined, deciding to instead wait for five minutes to see if another board member would arrive. None did.

Despite no meeting being opened, Benner handed out his report stating that other than business with Honeywell, there was nothing “big.”

After leaving the budget review and Honeywell energy audit for the next meeting, King mentioned an event which would occur before the next meeting — the abutters’ meeting for the Boothbay-to-Boothbay Harbor sidewalk project.

“Because we’re an abutter — we’ve been invited to attend,” said King. She said she will attend because Benner will not be in the district that day.

The abutters’ meeting is Wednesday, Oct. 18 from 2 p.m. to 4:30 p.m. A general public meeting will follow from 4:30 to 6 p.m.
