Wed, 06/21/2017 - 9:00am

Immediately following the long holiday weekend the Point once again went into quiet mode due in part to schools still in session, in another week or so we should be bustling once again.

Our new AD Nick Arno is due to arrive next weekend and will officially begin work on Monday, June 26 readying the Casino and the surrounding grounds for the summer’s activities. Nick’s hours will remain the same as last summer so please be sure to check the schedule at the Casino. Activities will commence on Thursday, June 29.

I would like to remind everyone that the Casino will be closed at 4 p.m. on the June 30 to give the Activities Committee the opportunity to set up for the Chicken Barbecue which be held on Saturday, July 1 at 6:30 p.m. Along with barbecued chicken, hamburgers will also be an option at this year’s event. Donna Logan is in charge of ticket sales and will be available on Friday, June 30, 4 p.m., at the Casino and immediately following the Horribles Parade on Saturday morning. You may also contact Donna at 633-7202 to purchase your tickets as well. Tickets will be available from Nick at the Casino when he is on duty.

Saturday morning, July 1 the Horribles Parade will take place on Van Horn Road at 9:30 followed by the first softball game of the season.

Chapel services will begin on Sunday, June 25 led by Rev. Charles R. Carrick, chaplain, Wyoming Seminary, Kingston, Pennsylvania. Services begin at 9:30 a.m. and all are welcome to attend. This is, of course, a very special year not only for Ocean Point but also for the Wilson Memorial Chapel, as we will celebrate its 100th anniversary.

There is exciting news from the Newell family, Gus and Barbara’s grandson Matt Robbins and his wife Kelly have just purchased the Corner Cottage from Pete and Barb Newell who recently purchased the cottage from the McKay family, welcome to Ocean Point Matt and Kelly.

As was the case last summer, Sue Clark’s book, “Past Images of Ocean Point, Maine” is available for purchase at the East Boothbay General Store and the Ocean Point Inn or by contacting her directly at latitude43designs@hotmail.com. or 207-998-9169. Sue will once again be conducting a walking tour of Ocean Point at the end of July focusing on the Grimes Cove area; it’s a tour not to be missed!

    Have a great week!
