Ocean Point Column: Vintage photos wanted

Tue, 06/12/2018 - 12:00pm

We are fast approaching the start of the activities season here at the Point. You should have received a copy of the activities calendar via email, if not Nick will be here the weekend of the 22nd to move in and will begin work on Monday, June 24 so see him for a copy of the calendar.

One addition to the calendar will be a Vintage Photo Exhibit which is being organized by Marilyn Heise along with Carol Palmer and Pat McHold. Marilyn sent along this information regarding the event:

In celebration of changes coming to the Casino and surrounding play areas, we are planning an OP Vintage Photo Exhibit from Friday, July 13 through Sunday, July 15 at the Casino to invoke memories of days gone by at our favorite vacation peninsula that dates back into the 1800s.

We are seeking photos of the first Casino and other vintage OP photographs, framed or unframed, from the early 20th Century or before. Families with history at Ocean Point look through your old photographs and bring them to the Casino between Friday, July 6 and Thursday, July 12. Fill out a form and insert them into the envelope provided. We will hang framed photos on nails or hooks and unframed using devices that will not damage your photos. Up to five photos per submission accepted.

Photos must be picked up on Sunday, July 15 after the softball game. If you would like your photos returned by mail, please provide a stamped and addressed envelope when you deliver your pictures.

Photographs will be on display during Friday’s Food Sale, Saturday’s Pancake Breakfast and Adult Porch Party, and during the Sunday softball game.

For more information, contact Marilyn Heise at jandmheise@gmail.com or (207) 315-6303.

Congratulations to Ben Ford and Hannah Sparks on their recent engagement Memorial Day weekend. Ben is the son of Rick and Claudette Ford long time Ocean Point residents. Currently no date has been announced for their nuptials.

Congratulations to Sarah Kern on her recent graduation from Pentucket Regional High School. Sarah will be attending Northeastern University in the fall to pursue her degree in nursing.

There will be a Memorial Service at the Ocean Point Chapel to celebrate the life of beloved Ocean Pointer Ted Kern on Saturday, July 21 at 4 p.m.

Jim Brown’s, another beloved Ocean Pointer, Memorial Service is to be held on Sunday, July 7. I don’t have a time as of this writing but I will check and keep you all updated when I have more information.

As you can see a busy summer is planned, please check the bulletin board at the Casino, the blog and the website for any additions or changes to the calendar. Please stop by to say hi to Nick or introduce yourself if you are new to our beautiful peninsula.

Have a great week!
