In addition to the wonderful events and performances that take place in the Opera House at Boothbay Harbor, there is a team of staff and volunteers hard at work behind the scenes. One such group is the board of directors who meet monthly and help the staff carry out the mission of the Opera House.

The Board is made up of 16 volunteers, including Brenda Blackman, Suzie Edwards, Bonnie Ginger, Allyson Goodwin, John Schindler, and Peter Southwick.  Peg Helming is the Board’s President, Kari Smith is the Vice President, Jill Tupper is the secretary, and Amy Valentine is the Treasurer.

The new board members are as follows: 

Susan Brackett returns as a member of the Board of Directors and self-claims to be a “chronic volunteer” at the Opera House for over 20 years. Susan is now retired, but has worked as both a banker and small business owner/custom framer/gallery/antique store. 

Nan Davison has been active in many not-for-profts in the community over the decades, serving on the boards of the YMCA, BRLT, St. Andrews Hospital and the Chamber of Commerce. She served as president of both the YMCA board and the Land Trust board. 

Sarah Harris serves as one of the Youth Representatives on the Board. She is a sophomore at BRHS and has danced on the BOH stage a few times in her musical career. Sarah enjoys singing and dancing and looks forward to attending the annual Junior Theater Festival every January.  

Brad Hastings was a teacher and for 18 years served as head of school  in independent secondary boarding-day schools in New England. Upon his retirement, he worked with a teacher placement agency and acted as a consultant for two schools in the area. He has also served on a Connecticut school’s board of trustees and on three boards of non-profit organizations in the Boothbay region.  

Mark Spencer is a long-time summer resident of Boothbay Harbor. Mark recently retired after 41 years as an officer in the United States Marine Corps and a Naval Aviator. His most recent stint was as a pilot with Delta Airlines. Mark serves on the board of overseers in Bayville. His love for old buildings and desire to make them shine is a perfect match for the historic Opera House. 

Mark Stover is a lifelong local resident and a repeat member of the board of directors. He owns a charter boat named Redhook that provides sightseeing trips out of the Tugboat Inn Marina in the summertime. In addition to working on the water, Mark has been in several bands over the years and currently sings and plays guitar in the local band, The Holy Mackerels.
