“Painting Maine” returns to the Damariscotta River Grill for its fifth annual show, opening on Monday, July 21 and running through Sunday, September 14.

Highlighting the unique beauty of Maine, this show features returning artists Ellen Hutcheson, Barbara Klein, and Sally Loughridge, and welcomes new exhibitor, Bob Vaughan. The public is invited to the artists reception on Wednesday, July 23 from 4 to 6 p.m to enjoy the artistic views and delicious appetizers by Chef Rick Hirsch.

All artworks (oils, watercolors, and pastels) are for sale. Be they representational or abstract, the artworks display a common sensitivity to light, color and design and reflect the artists' deep love of Maine.

Ellen Hutcheson of Boothbay relishes the process of painting itself, particularly en plein air. She is intrigued by shape, color and line as she works to convey her connection with a scene. Hutcheson's paintings convey a sense of joy and peaceful connection to Maine. For more on Hutcheson, visit www.maineartpublishing.com.

Barbara Klein of Bristol also enjoys painting outdoors focusing on simplicity and color, she creates light-filled interpretations of Maine's countryside using either oil or watercolor. More on Klein can be found at bkleinart.com.

Sally Loughridge of South Bristol, painting primarily in soft pastel or oil, loves the recognizable 'bones' of Maine that are always freshly tinted with the ever-changing light and atmosphere. For more on Loughridge, visit www.sallyloughridge.com.

Bob Vaughan of Bristol initially loved the medium of watercolor for its seeming simplicity, spontaneity, and glow. Light, sound, and smell can stir him to paint. His aim is to have the viewer long to walk right into the painting. See some of Vaughn's work at pemaquidartgallery.com.

Damariscotta River Grill is located at 155 Main St. Damariscotta.
