Paul T. Gahan

Paul Turner Gahan, 83, of Newmarket, New Hampshire died peacefully at his home on Jan. 20, 2018.

Born on April 7, 1934 in Exeter, he was the son of Arthur M. and Helen M. (Turner) Gahan.

Paul and his beloved lab Dinah were summer residents at the Gagne Cottage on Juniper Point in West Boothbay Harbor, Maine.

Paul served in the U.S. Air Force and was a member of the Robert G. Durgin, American Legion Post #67 in Newmarket. He was a life member of the NRA.

Paul served as the police chief for the town of Newmarket for 22 years, retiring in 1991 after 33 years of service. He was a member of the New Hampshire Police Chief Association.

He always enjoyed a good time, and loved hunting, fishing, snowmobiling, shooting trap, going up to camp, heading to Boothbay, flying, fly-tying and ammo reloading, and crossword puzzles. 

His best memories were his trip he took to Alaska where they flew him into the Alaska outback on a float plane and he rafted for a week long fishing trip back to the village with his friends George and Jeff. An Elk hunt to New Mexico with George. Two trips to Anticosti with George. A couple of cross country trips in the 1970s to visit with family.

He was an avid dog owner and dog trainer. He was very involved in early K9 training.

Predeceased by his wife Carol who died in 2003; two brothers, Arthur M. Gahan Jr. and Ernie Gahan; and two sisters, Annabelle and Margaret.

He is survived by his son, Mark Gahan and his significant other Julie Critchett of Newmarket; the love of his life, Bunny Gagne of Newmarket; a special niece Nancy Williamson and her husband Chuck; several nieces and nephews; and a devoted black lab, Dinah.  

Spring burial will take place in Durham Cemetery.
