Postponed Haiti benefit dinner to be held Nov. 10

Tue, 11/07/2017 - 4:00pm

One of the casualties of last week’s storm in Lincoln County was the annual Haiti Benefit Dinner. Power was not restored to St Patrick’s in time to hold the dinner on Nov. 3 as originally scheduled. The dinner has been postponed for one week and will now take place on Friday, Nov. 10 at 6 p.m. at St Patrick’s Church in Damariscotta Mills.

Tickets sold for the Nov. 3 date will be honored Nov. 10. Additional tickets are still available at Sherman’s Midcoast Bookshops in Damariscotta and Boothbay Harbor, Skidompha Library and Treats and are $30 for adults ($35 at the door) and $15 for children.

Anyone with a ticket who cannot attend Nov. 10 and wishes a refund is requested to call 380-5103.

Everything else about the dinner will be as planned. Newcastle Publick House is preparing delicious Creole food. Haitian art, handicrafts, coffee, and vanilla as well as bowls by Alan Baldwin will be for sale. Haitian music and dancing will be featured. The painting “RaRa” by Jean-Baptiste Nyperking will be raffled at the dinner (raffle tickets are also for sale in advance at Skidompha at $5 each, or three for $10). There will be a door prize of a basket of Haitian food and drink.

All of the proceeds for the dinner go directly to projects that assist the neediest in the Haitian town of Gros Morne. The highlight of the dinner will be a photo and video report on these projects followed by an opportunity to make personal pledges to provide goats and veterinary medicines, school books and uniforms and hot school lunches. This part of the evening will be chaired by auctioneer John Bottero of Thomaston Place Galleries.
