A quiet Men's Night in Boothbay Harbor

The rainy weather and a conflicting concert held locally led to a quiet Men's Night in Boothbay Harbor on Wednesday, Dec. 17. Many stores were open, but the number of shoppers was, in general, lower than expected.

“We never have extra food left over,” said State Rep. Stephanie Hawke, who was manning the grill at Janson's Clothing Store along with senior David Machon.

The grill provides free food for shoppers and all donations go to help project graduation.

Still, a few dozen locals were out taking advantage of the deals available.

“I'm sending these to my dad and two sisters in New York,” John Miller said, while shopping at Coastal Maine Popcorn and getting 10 percent off.

“We've been pretty steady tonight,” Ken Rayle said at Sweet Bay.

At Janson's Clothing Store, a late-night rush around 8 p.m. brought Betty Maddocks out to help wrap items.

“It's been mostly quiet tonight. This is much busier than it's been,” she said.

Even with light crowds, the mood was festive and fun as shoppers greeted each other and chatted with clerks about their holiday plans.
