Reel to Reel Music opens in Damariscotta

    Reel to Reel Music had a “soft opening” on Saturday, April 8 in the former Radio Shack store in the Elm Street Plaza in Damariscotta. Co-owners Zacharia Rankin and Olivia DeLisle are responding to a resurgence in interest in long play vinyl records.

    “People say that they have incomparable sound,” said DeLisle,who agrees.

    The couple has been collecting a wide variety of records of various genres either through purchase or donations. “We want to have something for everyone,” said Rankin.

    Rankin said they will carry CDs, with an emphasis on local recording artists.

    DeLisle and Rankin are both musicians. DeLisle performs with her trio on a regular basis in Portland under the name, Driving Charlie Home. Rankin has a new band, ZESTY,  which concentrates on ’60s rock. The couple leads open mic sessions on Thursdays in-season at Schooner Landing, where they also tend bar.

    Reel to Reel Music also carries audio equipment including turntables, amplifiers, speakers, and CD and tape players. There is a wing with stacks of comic books.

    The store plans to be open Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m.- 5 p.m. The phone number is 563-3360.
