Renovation is best solution
Dear Editor:
I read with interest that the Community School District board of trustees unanimously voted Jan. 22 to organize a public referendum for a revised $29,975,000 project to renovate the Boothbay region middle-elementary school. I would comment that renovation in this situation vs. tear down is the best solution.
My “away town” just approved $75 million for renovation of three elementary schools so the number seems reasonable.
It seems to me that the issue of per pupil expense stems from having a school district out on a peninsula with a relatively small population. It would seem that combining with an adjacent district to increase enrollment and possibly expand curriculum could improve education and lower per pupil costs.
Just a thought…..
