Resolution expected soon on Westrum’s status at TBRJ

Resolution should come April 12 on the status of Two Bridges Regional Jail Administrator Mark Westrum, TBRJ Authority Chair Mary Trescot said Friday.

Westrum was placed on administrative leave following his arrest in October 2016 for Aggravated OUI (alcohol). In early January, he pled to a lesser charge and received no jail time. On Jan. 12, Westrum was placed on a 60-day unpaid suspension and was expected back at work in mid-March. He did not return to work. Instead, the Jail Authority scheduled a series of special meetings, some of which were canceled.

Captain James Bailey is serving as interim administrator.

Trescot’s comment about a likely resolution at the April 12 Authority meeting came in response to a question following a closed-door, or executive session, March 31. It was called “to meet with legal counsel to discuss the legal rights and responsibilities of the Board.” No public vote followed and Trescot did not provide further details on what the talks regarded.
