River Arts is inviting artists throughout Maine to submit artwork for jurying in its upcoming exhibition, “The Maine Scene.” Artists can submit up to three works in any medium including sculpture, photography, collage, painting, ceramics and fine craft - representational or abstract.

Work can be delivered anytime during gallery hours from now until the deadline, July 23 at 4 p.m. The exhibition will hang July 29 through Sept. 1 with an opening reception Friday, July 29 from 5-7 p.m.

Wall-hung work size maximum: 60 inches in height, 42 inches in width – and for safety reasons plexiglass or other non-glass option should be used for work over 34 inches, excluding pastels. Artists' entry fee is $15 for members and $20 for non-members. Work previously shown at River Arts may not be resubmitted and all entered work must be for sale. Entry forms are available online at www.riverartsme.org and at the gallery Artists will be notified by email or phone of the juror’s decision.

Queries and requests may be directed to River Arts at 207-563-1507 or by email at info@riverartsme.org.

Portland native Bruce Brown will be juror. Brown served as curator at the Center of Maine Contemporary Art in Rockport 1987-2007, curating over 200 exhibitions promoting Maine visual artists in 2006. Also 2006 was the year he was cited by the Portland Press Herald/Maine Sunday Telegram as one of six Maine citizens who made a notable contribution to the state for conceiving of and chairing “The Maine Print Project,” the largest visual arts collaboration in Maine history up to that time involving 25 different print exhibitions in Maine museums and non-profit galleries statewide.

He received an honorary Doctor of Humane Letters degree from the University of Maine at Presque Isle in 2009. In February, 2013 he became co-director of Portland's PhoPa Gallery in Portland. On June 25, 2016 a gallery in the new CMCA building in Rockland designed by Toshiko Mori was dedicated in his honor.

River Arts is open Tuesday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., and on Sundays from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Closed Mondays. River Arts is located at 241 US Route 1 in Damariscotta.
