Detective Sergeant Ron Rollins was honored as Deputy Sheriff of the Year at the Maine Sheriffs’ Association award banquet in Biddeford March 15, according to Lincoln County Sheriff Chief Deputy Rand Maker. Also honored was Officer Charlie McCue of Two Bridges Regional Jail. McCue was named Corrections Officer of the Year.  Rollins received his plaque and the appreciation of county commissioners March 20.

The Sheriff’s Office also announced the winning bid for training ammunition, T.J. Morris for $8,394. Morris also had the winning bid last year. The Sheriff’s Office purchases 32,000 rounds for training. Deputy Aaron Beck, who is training for drug impairment recognition, received approval to train in Baltimore March 25-28. Maker also announced animal control officer contracts were received from Somerville and Nobleboro.

Mary Ellen Barnes of Lincoln County Regional Planning Commission requested approval to seek a Connect ME grant to hire a consultant to develop a plan to provide service, especially in northern towns such as Dresden, Somerville and Whitefield, and identify why some people in better served towns do not have service. If LCRPC receives the award, it is expected to be between $30,000 and $40,000.

The county  will be replacing three copiers for $5,516 each. County Administrator Carrie Kipfer said the cost is lower than the lease option deals the county has been using, with the added benefit of owning the copier. Some of the funds are coming from the operating budget and some from a reserve account.  She also announced U.S. Cellular is repairing the Huntoon Hill Tower at the company’s own expense of $59,955. Repairs include adding a guide wire for safety.
