The Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor made two large contributions Nov. 30 to local non-profit groups. The Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund received a $5,000 donation and Boothbay Region High School’s GAPP (German American Partnership Program) received $3,000.

BRSAF is a need-based financial program for local students furthering their education past high school. The fund provides financial assistance whether BRHS graduates attend a four- year university or technical college or pursue a certificate program. “Our mission is helping those BRHS graduates who go onto higher education. It’s a pretty amazing organization whose roots came from local Rotarians. We want to thank you for your continued support,” said BRSAF President Brad Hastings.

GAPP will use its contribution for a February trip to Germany. Twelve GAPP students are participating in the trip which has an average cost of $1,700 per person. Rotary President Jonathan Tindal presented the club’s donation to BRHS German teacher and Interact Club advisor Ingrid Merrill, who is also a Rotarian.

“This is a fun and likely a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for these 12 students traveling to Germany. This is not a simple ask for anybody and I’m proud this club is supporting this group with this gift,” Tindal said.

The Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor meets each Thursday at its clubhouse at 66 Montgomery Road.
