Rotary Interact Club donates $500 to BRSAF

High school students host spaghettti benefit dinner

The local Interact Club raised $500 for the Boothbay Region Student Aid Fund Feb. 13 during a community spaghetti dinner held at the Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor’s clubhouse. Interact is is a service organization for high school students who volunteer their time for local community projects. Interact is an international organization sponsored by the Rotary Club of Boothbay Harbor and Rotary International. Sixteen Interact Club members served the spaghetti dinner.

Each Interact Club conducts two community service projects per year. One project benefits the local community and the other promotes international understanding. Local Rotary President Jonathan Tindal and members Debbie Graves and BRHS faculty sponsor Ingrid Merrill were joined at the dinner by BRSAF President Brad Hastings, Treasurer Louise Cowan and other board members. According to the sponsor’s, this year’s dinner brought in a record amount of donations.

The local Interact Club has 45 members and meets twice a month. The club assists local youth in connecting with community leaders, develop leadership skills, make international connections, and discover more opportunities to connect with various Rotary organizations.

The local Interact Club has hosted a spaghetti dinner for several years to benefit the BRSAF which provides financial assistance for secondary education or training to accredited institution for up to six years. All BRHS graduates regardless of age are eligible for the grants.
