Saint Dominic Academy Saints came marching into Boothbay on June 7 and had the Seahawks’ number in a Class B North lacrosse quarterfinal match-up at Sherman Field. Saint Dom’s scored twice in the contest’s first two minutes and 35 seconds in their 15-5  victory.

Boothbay midfielder Jackie McLoon scored 54 seconds later, trimming Saint Dom’s lead to 2-1. but the Seahawks would get no closer. No. 5 Saint Dominic Academy advances to the regional semifinal against No. 1 Yarmouth on June 10. No. 4 Boothbay finishes its season 10-3.

McLoon described Saint Dom’s style “as playing like ants” because the Saints were seemingly everywhere on the field. “It was a tough game for us,” McLoon said. ‘They definitely beat us to the ball and did a better job at scooping and intercepting the ball.”

Saint Dom’s scored another goal two minutes later extending its lead to 3-1 resulting in Boothbay coach Donna Jordan calling a timeout. Jordan reminded her team members to set their defense and watch Saint Dom cutters as they attack the goal. When play resumed, Saint Dom’s won the draw and marched down the field in 13 seconds to score again.

Despite Saint Dom’s five regular season losses, Boothbay goalie Page Brown sees them as a strong contender for the regional championship. As a Western Maine Athletic Conference member, Saint Dom’s plays a schedule against a mixture of Class A and B teams.

“They’re a very good team and definitely a contender for the regional title,” Brown said. ‘Our defense played well, but they were patient and waited us out. They made a lot of great passes which led to many high percentage shots.”

Brown made 13 saves in goal. McLoon scored twice and assisted on another. Sydney Meader scored twice. Kate Friant scored once and had an assist.
