The Saltwater Artists Gallery invites patrons and the public to visit the gallery to enjoy light refreshments and mingle with the artists at the annual artists’ reception on Wednesday, July 9, 5 to 7 p.m.

This annual artists' reception is an opportunity to view the new work of veteran members like photographers Sandy Flint and Dave Higgins along with new paintings from the brush of long term members Maude Olsen, Sandy Griffin, Judine French and Audrey Bechler.

Cynthia Hammett’s bold strokes and color represents her exciting interpretation of the Maine coast. Tom Raymond’s ever popular bowls fascinate visitors as well as Lynne Thompson’s sea glass jewelry. Linda Paine’s woven gold and silver bracelets and necklaces are always popular.

Carol not only has been lending her considerable curating talents to improving the gallery look this season, but she has also recently opened her own home gallery in Jefferson: the Carol Wiley Studio.

Midge Coleman’s watercolors and pastels grace the gallery walls this season, along with the still lifes and portraits of Kim Hetherington. Joe and Mary of Devenney Pottery share their subtle application of color in their lovely vases, bottles, bowls and unique teapots.

Lizzy Derecktor’s Spiritwear creates wearable art that appeals to the dancer in all of us. Pam Joy has turned her background in graphic art and love of nature’s coastal gifts into appealing driftwood and stone sculptures. Steve Viega of Walpole utilizes his background in forestry and boat building to demonstrate his fine wood working skills and joinery skills by making furniture and creating free form bowls from exotic woods. His bowls offer great visual and textural delight combined with everyday utility.

Guest artists are original founder Consuelo Eames Hanks including work by Ted Hanks. Our second guest artist is founder and watercolorist, Julian Sacks.

This New Harbor nonprofit cooperative gallery is located at the end of Route 130, near the turn to Pemaquid Point. Saltwater Artists Gallery represents the work of 23 members, and the works of the two founding guest artists, who reside or summer in the Midcoast area. The gallery is open daily 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.
