School Friday still up in the air

Alternative Organizational Structure (AOS) 98 Superintendent Eileen King and Facilities-Transportation Director Dave Benner have decided to wait until 5:30 a.m. Friday, Nov. 3 to announce whether or not school will be held for Boothbay Region elementary and high schools.

“Dave Benner and I just met to discuss the status of the roads,” King said in a notice. “There are several trucks now on the peninsula removing trees, downed power lines and reconnecting power.”

King said the roads in Edgecomb which continue to have issues are Cochrane, Cross Point, Dodge, Shore, River and Mill. Southport, Boothbay Harbor and Boothbay are all in fair condition, said King, but there are still downed lines.

“Due to the work that is being done, it would be premature of me to make a decision regarding the opening of schools on Friday this afternoon as I have tried to do this week. Dave and I will continue to monitor the situation throughout the evening ... Once the decision is made, a message will go out on instant alert. I know this has been an incredibly frustrating situation and I thank you for your patience, understanding and support as we have addressed these issues this week.”
