The Boothbay boys basketball team’s defense has shown sizable improvement in the past week by employing mostly a 2-3 zone. In the middle of that zone is six foot seven inch Nick Simpson patrolling the defensive interior as the Seahawks have won two of their past three games. Boothbay (7-4) defeated Mountain Valley Conference rival Madison (4-8) 66-51 on Jan. 12.

Boothbay’s defense triggered a strong transition game leading to scoring opportunities for several players. Sophomore guard Hunter Crocker was the game’s leading scorer with 26. Other Boothbay scorers were Steve Reny with 18, Kyle Ames with 11, Nick Morley had six, and Simpson added five. Boothbay is in fifth place in the Class C South Heal point standings. Madison is eighth.

Boothbay’s next game is on Tuesday, Jan. 16 against Mountain Valley in Rumford.
