Seahawk swimmers continue to excel

The Boothbay Region High School Seahawks swim team continues to excel, with six Seahawks now qualified to participate in the state meet, many in multiple events. Their most recent home meet was on Jan. 16 where they competed against Mt. Ararat and Lincoln Academy.

The Seahawks competed in 12 out of 22 events. In those 12 events, the Seahawks took first place eight times, second place twice, and third place five times.

First places went to Emma Pearce in the 200 yard freestyle and 500 yard freestyle, Evy Case in the 200 yard IM and 100 yard freestyle, Karl Alamo in the 50 yard freestyle, Brenna Alley in the 100 yard backstroke, Nicole LaBrecque in the 100 yard breaststroke, and the relay team of Lincoln Hamblett, Brenna Alley, Nicole LaBrecque and Emma Pearce in the 200 yard freestyle relay.

Second places went to Karl Alamo in the 100 yard freestyle and the relay team of Brenna Alley, Samantha Carter, Lincoln Hamblett and Evy Case in the 400 yard freestyle relay.

Third places went to Brenna Alley in the 200 yard IM, Lincoln Hamblett in the 50 yard freestyle and 100 yard breaststroke, Chris Groneng in the 50 yard freestyle, and the relay team of Nicole LaBrecque, Samantha Carter, Emma Pearce and Evy Case in the 200 yard medley relay.

Seahawks who qualified for states at this meet include Brenna Alley in the 200 yard IM, Karl Alamo in the 50 yard freestyle and Emma Pearce in the 500 yard freestyle.

Emma Pearce also came very close to qualifying for the 200 yard freestyle, with her time of 2:30.64 just .64 seconds off the qualifying mark.

Karl Alamo also came very close to qualifying in the 100 yard freestyle, just .32 seconds off.

There are two more meets to go in the season before states, with both meets taking place at home. They are on Jan. 23 and Jan. 30, and begin at 6 p.m. at the Boothbay Region Y.
