Seahawk swimmers headed to the state meet

Wed, 02/14/2018 - 11:15am

The Boothbay Region High School Seahawk swim team’s regular season is over. Despite a small team, four boys and four girls, five of the eight will be swimming in individual events at the Class B State Meet. The meet, at Bowdoin College, will take place on Monday, Feb. 19 for the girls and Tuesday, Feb. 20 for the boys. Both meets start at 11 a.m.

In order to swim in individual events, swimmers must make the cut time during regular season meets. They also must swim in at least four meets. Swimmers are only allowed to swim two individual events at the state meet.

For the girls, seniors Evy Case and Emma Pearce are qualifiers. Both girls qualified in multiple events. Maren Whitney and Ashley Ames will join them for relay events.

For the boys, freshmen Graham Harris and Jameson LaBrecque will join sophomore Rowan Kristin in individual events. Jameson has qualified in the 100 breaststroke, while Graham and Rowan have multiple events they have qualified for. Fox Elder will attend the meet so that the boys will be able to swim relays.

While they are a small group, they are dedicated. They swim with Lincoln Academy and two swimmers from Wiscasset. They share coaches, practice times and transportation. This also allows the Seahawks to swim the KVAC swim schedule since Lincoln Academy is a KVAC school. It is a win-win situation for all.
