The Seahawks track and field team accomplished a great many feats in its meet at Hall-Dale High School on Tuesday, May 1. BRHS boys and girls teams faced off against Spruce Mountain High School, Monmouth Academy, Lisbon High School, Oak Hill High School, and Hall-Dale.

Jay Hasch tied the school’s record – set by Mike Leighton, class of 1998 – for the high jump at 6-2.

Graham Harris, Will Perkins, Blake Erhard and Kyle Ames all competed in the 4x400m and 4x800m. The quartet managed to win both events placing tenth on the All Seahawks list for the 400m event and third for the 800m event.

Sam Burnham and Jay Hasch both qualified for state championships in javelin while Connor Demmons qualified for states in discus, in which he also placed first, and in shot-put.

Blake Erhard and Will Perkins finished first and second in the 1600m run qualifying them both for the Mountain Valley Conference Championships.

Kyle Ames placed fourth in the 800m run while Olivia Paolillo placed in both the 100 and 300m hurdles. Quinn Ranta placed in four events: high jump, triple jump, 110m hurdles and 300m hurdles.

The Seahawks runners, jumpers and throwers competed next at Telstar on Tuesday, May 8 with the girls placing third out of five teams and the boys taking home first place for the first time on the season. The boys scored 126 points as a team, beating runner-up Monmouth Academy handily by 22 points and Dirigo High School, last place, by 100 points.

“Individually, there were a lot of great performances, but once again top accolades go to Jay Hasch, who entered into the triple jump for the first time this season and in the process set a new school record,” said Coach Nick Scott.

Hasch also won the high jump and earned tenth on the All Seahawks list for javelin, throwing over 140 feet for first place. Sam Burnham followed close behind for third in javelin.

Quinn Ranta qualified for states in the 110m hurdles and the triple jump earning him spots on the All Seahawks list. Ranta also won on the 300m hurdles and placed fifth in the high jump. Blake Erhard won in the 1600m and 800m runs qualifying for states in both.

Kyle Ames and Will Perkins racked up points in both the 400m dash and 3200m run. Ames placed second in both and Perkins placed third in both. Perkins also placed second in the high jump. Connor Demmons qualified for states in both the shot-put and discus events placing second and fourth respectively. Graham Harris placed sixth in the 800m and ran a personal best in the 1600m run.

Reagan Cola racked up points for the girls, placing first in the 200m dash, second in the 400m dash, and fifth in javelin. Cola qualified for states in the 400m dash. Olivia Paolillo placed first in the 100m hurdles and fourth in the 300m hurdles, both events in which she previously qualified for states. Zada Smith followed closely behind Cola in the 100m hurdles and behind Paolillo, placing third and fourth respectively. Hannah Cola placed fifth in the 100m dash and third in the long jump. Hannah's jump qualifies her for MVC’s. Paolillo, Smith, Riley Sullivan and Hannah Cola made up the 100m team placing third in the event.

The Seahawks will compete next in Lisbon on Monday, May 14. The nine-team meet features teams from both MVC and KVAC conferences. On Friday, May 11, the Seahawks travel to Cony High School for the Capital City Classic, a 15-team meet, and a prime time for top performance according to Coach Scott.
