The Boothbay Region High School baseball team suffered a 12-1 defeat in its opening game at home against Dirigo High School on Monday, April 24. Dirigo lead with six hits coupled with five Seahawk errors in scoring its dozen runs.  BRHS used three pitchers and only scraped out four hits to produce its single run.

The first inning looked promising as Zach Blackman was hit by a pitch, stole second base and took third on a ground out only to be tagged out trying to score on a passed ball.

Dirigo opened its attack in the third with a double by pitcher Cooper Chaisson driving home Luke Lueders and Tucker Olsen.

Starting pitcher Cameron Crocker gave way in the fifth inning to his catcher Grant Giles. Mike Ripley relieved Giles to finish out the game.

Coach Josh Garneau said he replaced starter Cameron Crocker because of his high pitch count.

“I wanted to save him for Friday’s game,” said Garneau.

The Seahawks managed its run in the bottom of the sixth when Carter Babcock singled, advanced to third on a passed ball and scored on a hit by Cameron Crocker.

Third year coach Garneau said he was encouraged by talent from a solid mixture of the classes that came out for the team.

“We have a large senior group,” said Garneau.

The team is next scheduled to play away on Friday, April 28 against Monmouth Academy. The home game scheduled for Wednesday, April 26 against Lisbon High School was moved to May.
