The Boothbay Region High School baseball team broke into the win column Wednesday with a 10-3 home victory over Wiscasset Middle High School.

A combination of strong pitching and timely hitting allowed Seahawks Coach Ed Crocker to use his full roster in the seven-inning win. “Everyone came out and played well,” Crocker said.

Seahawks ace Cameron Crocker led the way with 14 strikeouts through six and two thirds innings to be relieved by Brett Hollowell. Coach Crocker thought of bringing in Jay Hasch in the fifth with a 6-0 lead but thought better of it. “(Cameron Crocker) was pitching a no-hitter,” said Coach Crocker.

The Seahawks got off to a quick lead in the first inning with runs scored by Hunter Crocker and Brett Hollowell. The team followed with twin runs in the third and fourth innings.

Substitutes kept the rally going in the fifth with runs scored by Eli Gudroe, Jameson LaBrecque and Fox Elder. Josey Smith played an inning at second base and gained a walk in the sixth inning.

Wiscasset got on the scoreboard with three runs in the sixth inning scored by Matt Eckert, Ronald Drake and James Hudson.

The outstanding defensive play of the game was made by Seahawks left fielder Jay Hasch in the fourth inning. He caught a scorching line drive off the bat of Ronald Drake to keep the Crocker no-hitter alive.

Wiscasset Coach Gregg Wood said his team was loaded with freshmen but has made progress as the season has progressed. “We are coming along,” said Wood.

Senior pitcher Ronald Drake began the game and was replaced by Andy Hendrickson in the third, followed by Josh Dualan in the fifth inning.

The Seahawks now stand at 1-4, Wiscasset 0-5 on the season.
