The Boothbay Region High School (BRHS) Seahawks and Gardiner Area High School (GAHS) Tigers tied 63-63 in another nail-biting Unified Basketball league game, Wednesday, March 6 on the road –  the highest scoring game for the Seahawks this season.

Matthias Fanslau and Sandi Bolick tipped off the match with first possession going to the Seahawks. Fanslau recovered his own tip off and scored the first basket. Both teams played competitive offense. The Tigers led 35-31 at the half.

Fanslau and Odessey Jellison played tight defense in the second half as the game escalated. Both were leading scorers. Eddie Carpenter and Jackson Herbert played competitive one-on-one games.

Fanslau’s and Carpenter’s 3-pointers continue to dominate Seahawks offense: Fanslau from the wing and Carpenter from the top of the key, while Austin Orne is at home in the paint, racking up rebounds and layups. Anthony Angelico continues to hold the power forward position and, with the addition of Zander Blake to the Seahawks rotation at elbow, Chloe Joneth moves to a slot position. Seahawks are hopeful Brian Abbe will return soon to his corner post.

Kari Blake, Colby Allen and Ariel Alamo were team helpers. During a fast break, Alamo bypassed defenders with a sweet side arm bounce pass to Fanslau for layup.

With 15.5 seconds remaining, Fanslau drained a 3-point shot to tie the game. The Tigers were unable to answer and, with time ticking down, Orne drove for a layup, but time had expired, concluding the game in a tie.

The Seahawks’ record stands at 1-2-1 with two games left, both the week of March 11. On Tuesday, March 12, the Seahawks will play the Morse Shipbuilders in Bath and, on Thursday, March 14, the Seahawks and Tigers will face off again in the final game of the season; this time, the Seahawks will have home court. That game takes place during school hours, tip off at 1 p.m., and the game will be followed by a school-wide pizza party. The public is invited to attend.

GAHS turned out over 150 spectators for the March 6 game, which took place during their senior week and included a pre-game ceremony honoring senior players. The Tigers are coached by Jess Merrill; the Seahawks, by Dennis Dacus and Tanya Thibault. Ryan Guerrette was referee.
