Senator Dana Dow, a Waldoboro resident and the current state senator for Senate District 13, has announced that he will seek re-election in 2018 after serving three non-consecutive terms in the Maine Senate. Senator Dow has also served one prior term in the Maine House of Representatives.

“As a lifelong resident of Lincoln County, I am honored to have had the opportunity to once again serve as the state senator from District 13,” said Dow. “With the support of my friends, neighbors and community members, I hope that I can continue to work hard on their behalf to advance policies that encourage prosperity in Augusta.”

Dow currently serves as chair of the Legislature’s powerful Taxation Committee and as a member of the Insurance and Financial Affairs Committee. He has also served on the Labor, Commerce, Research and Economic Development Committee, the Marine Resources Committee and the Government Oversight Committee.

“Senator Dow returned to Augusta ready and willing to work hard for his constituents,” said Senate President Michael Thibodeau (R-Waldo). “Dana helped spearhead important measures such as the reinstatement of the tip credit and the repeal of the job-killing three percent surtax. He was also an important advocate for adequately funding our schools to better support our students and teachers and take some of the burden off of local municipalities. His experience as an educator and small business owner have made in an invaluable member of our caucus.”

Dow earned a B.S. in education from the University of Southern Maine in 1973. He is a former schoolteacher and is the owner and president of Dow Furniture, which is a family business, in Waldoboro. Dow previously served on the Waldoboro Planning Board, the Board of Directors for First National Bank and the Board of Directors for both MSAD 40 in Waldoboro and Region 8 in Rockland.

Dow and his wife Lisa reside in Waldoboro and attend the Waldoboro United Methodist Church. Together, they have four children and two grandchildren.
