Senior Collin Thompson credits a “work first, then play” attitude for his inclusion on Boothbay Region High School Top 10 Seniors list.

“I always do my assignments first,” Thompson said. “And that leaves time for fun.”

Thompson is the son of Hugh and Sherri Thompson of Southport.

He is attending Maine Maritime Academy in the fall.

He plans to major in marine engineering technology.

Thompson has worked occasionally as a sternman on local boats.

“I like being on the water,” Thompson said. “I've always lived on Southport and been interested in boats, plus a lot of my STEM classes focused on engineering.”

STEM refers to classes in science, technology, engineering and mathematics.

Thompson played junior varsity basketball for one year, football in his junior and senior years, and tennis during all four years of high school.

“I've played mostly on the offensive line (in football),” Thompson said. “It's fun even when we lose, like in the first round of playoffs against Dirigo, because everyone liked being together and playing and supporting each other.”

For two years Thompson has been on the math team.

He is also a member of the BRHS Robotics team (this year was the team’s first year).

He has participated in student council and is a member of the National Honor Society.

“It's been harder staying organized (senior year); there's been a lot more going on, and now we are all moving on,” Thompson said.
