The Lincoln County Sheriff’s Department continues investigating a mid-April disturbance regarding an Edgecomb criminal threatening charge to see if it’s related to a Boothbay fire. On May 1, Chief Deputy Rand Maker reported, “the matter is still under investigation and there are no new details to report.”

The sheriff’s department and Maine Fire Marshal’s office are investigating whether or not an April 15 fire is related to the case of criminal threatening and terrorizing with a dangerous weapon. The sheriff’s department received a complaint shortly after 10 p.m. April 14 from an Edgecomb resident. The department received a second complaint in Boothbay a few hours later, around 1:30 a.m. on April 15.

The initial complaint regarded an Old County Road resident complaining about being threatened with a firearm. The suspect threatened to harm himself  and allegedly shot a vehicle with a hunting rifle.  Once law enforcement arrived, the suspect fled. The sheriff’s department later found him in Boothbay, according to the press release.

Deputies arrested a Boothbay man in connection with the Edgecomb incident. Michael Holbrook, 46, was charged with criminal threatening and terrorizing with a dangerous weapon. Both are felonies. The sheriff’s department and Maine Fire Marshal office are also investigating whether or not Holbrook was involved in a fire which destroyed his home on Pension Ridge Road. Holbrook was found in Boothbay a few hours after the initial complaint. He was discovered in a building he owns at 3 Hooker’s Way. Later, Holbrook surrendered to the Maine State Tactical Team after negotiators talked him out of the building, according to the press release.

No additional charges have been filed against Holbrook.

“It’s still an active investigation and we have nothing new to report,” Maker said on May 1. “Our detectives have done a lot independent investigating as well as investigating with the fire marshal’s office.”

Holbrook was arraigned on April 19 in Wiscasset District Court. No new court date has been set.
